Built in the 90s in Bali-style pavilions, Taman Budaya is equipped with galleries, restaurants, meeting rooms and abundant outdoor spaces with mature landscape. Sentul City commissioned us to plan and design the rebuilding of Taman Budaya in 2010. This hotel is one of several new facilities added to refresh the overall image and appeal of Taman Budaya. The hotel was initially planned as a land-scraper that blends with the terrain to complement and enhance the existing bowl-shaped land-form. Later, it was changed into tent structures in response to budget and market condition; as well as to give a more outdoor and temporal feel. Planned in 2006, the town has seen a robust growth with opening of various residential and commercial clusters; and a population that is reaching a critical mass of an independent town. The developer asked us to re-plan the town center to inject life to the CBD that grows slower that the rest of the town; and to suit the market that prefers smaller lot sizes. After considering various urban features that may work to rejuvenate the area, we agreed on inserting a wide and shaded pedestrian street in the tradition of Las Ramblas as the main feature of the town centre. The street, later called Serpong GreenWalk, acts as a memorable central space, connecting every lots, and effectively cuts the district into smaller parcels. Along this linear public space, we then arrange vehicular circulation, parking spaces, buildings, anchor uses, and other features to stimulate network of activities that are vibrant as well as efficient.
